EVERYDAY CARRY (EDC)
Everyday carry (EDC) is a collection of useful items that are consistently carried on person every day.
The main reasons for having EDC are utility and preparedness; to help individuals overcome simple everyday problems, including possible emergency situations. Some of the most common EDC items are wallets, key rings, phones, watches, knives, flashlights, multitools, notebooks, and pens.
While often distributed among pockets in everyday clothing, carry options are frequently expanded by the addition of clothing accessories like a waist bag, purse, small day pack, Sunglasses, bracelets, or even footwear like long boots or a vest with pockets. How EDC items are stored, though, depends on the purpose and intentions of EDC items. The optimization of everyday carry (kit/layouts and carry modes) has become an internet subculture.
12 EDC items to consider
#1. WALLET
The bigger the wallet, the more you can put in it. Money for one, then ID, cards and maybe a credit card knife tool.
#2. MOBILE PHONE
They come in all shapes an sizes, good to get a tough case for it though.
#3. PEN
Pens are very useful, especially if it is a tactical pen. Don't get one that has all the gadgets in it. These are useless and break easy. I have one that is a glass breaker, self defence if needed and of course a pen.
#4. SMALL NOTEPAD
You have a pen, you will need a small note book to write in. I have a all weather note pad. It's compact and won't get all mushy when it rains or gets wet.
#5. SMALL FLASH LIGHT
Great when you need it, just make sure the batteries are good. Another self defence tool, if needed.
#6. FOLDING SMALL KNIFE (EDC LEGAL)
A small knife, depends when you need it, could come in handy for certain tasks. Make sure it is legal to carry.
#7. MINI FIRST AID KIT
Plasters, small bandage, hand sanitiser or wipes. You never know when you will need it.
#8. MULTI TOOL
They are plenty on the market, don't get a cheap and nasty one, it will break on you when you may need it the most.
#9. SMALL WHISTLE
Handy when you need to attract attention, or in a emergency. I have one with a button compass and small storage for some waterproof matches with a striker.
#10. LIGHTER
You never know when you need one, you may smoke or someone who you are with does. Also great fire starting, if you need to.
#11. MICRO-PARACORD
This is very thin, but very strong. You could get 50ft of it, the same size as a reel of thread.
#12. SMALL WATERPROOF PILL HOLDERS
These you can attach to your key ring or EDC pouch. Can store OTC Medication, cash (notes) water purification tablets and more.
The list is endless, remember everyday carry, so you will carry these items on you wherever you go. Any larger items, you will have in a get home bag, this I will go into later. It also depends where you live and maybe where you work. For example, if you live in the country, your items may be different than if you live in the city. Research is a good idea, I have given you a list of the main, most common items to have with you.
